![]() We tried a couple stops, but we didn't get good enough cell phone coverage to be able to hear about the sites. There is a self guided motor tour to different sections of the battlefield and surrounding area, that is about 10 miles. Our tour guide was informative and provided a good picture of the history of the battlefield and the Harper house. However, we did get a tour of the grounds and outbuilding. Unfortunately, the Harper house was closed for restoration work. We stopped in the visitor's center, looked around and watched a 15 minute movie about the history leading up to the battle. I was unaware of the large battle that took place here. We visited Bentonville Battlefield State Park in North Carolina. It's Def something I think everyone should experience at least one time! ![]() Great piece of history to learn about & tell/show or kids & generations to come. After being in that heat, you'll definitely need a something to drink. ![]() There's a small sitting area with vending machines. Amazing to see how soldiers lived in such a confined space for months/years at a time & didn't kill each other.Īt the end there is a gift shop (of course over-priced but most are). It's a workout! However, so fascinating to see the living quarters, the newspaper/ mail area, kitchen & how food was stored, laundry room, etc. After about 15 min I was looking for the exit. Takes at least an hour (or close) to get through it. Plenty of signs & arrows to te you which way to go but still can get confusing. Stairways are tight, some curvy, & I not temptress controlled so in the summer >t was freaking hot down there!. Although a good experience, I'd prefer not to take another tour through it! □ It was $14 for adult, I think around $8 for a child. This ship is huge! We visited on a Friday at 4pm (hour before closing) in June 2023, so it wasn't crowded, which was good. The Battleship is great for kids & adults to see how our military lived & still do also there are probably some updates to the battleships now. ![]() In all, a great place to bring the family and spend a the day. The only slight disappointment was that many of the cafes and eateries close after lunch and don't reopen till around 4 of 5 pm for dinner. On the boardwalk, I particularly loved the shaded overlook that offered expansive views of the beach in all directions.Īlso impressive was how clean the are is maintained, I didn't see any litter along the path. And of course, the warm water! It was 81º in water here today compared to a chilly 65 in Santa Monica beach. Then there are the unique physical features such as the sand dunes and wide variety of marsh vegetation. Many, from my view, give almost a Caribbean vibe and feel, if that makes any sense. The eastern NC coastline is, by contrast, sparsely populated (Wilmington is the only "large" city) and is dotted with quaint, cozy little villages. For one, the coastline is not nearly as developed as Southern California with stifling traffic and miles of concrete. I traveled here on a Wednesday to avoid the weekend crowds but there were still a decent about of beach goers stretched out along the sands.Īs a California transplant, I'm quite taken by North Carolina beaches. My visit was on hot and lazy mid-July day. Interesting fact: the Carolina beach boardwalk was originally built in 1887 but the latest improvements/additions were finished in the early 2000's which brought it up to its current 1/4 mile length. There is a hurricane contraption that is cash only $2 that blows wind around you and makes you feel like your standing in a category 1 hurricane (wind only)Ĭheck the times for their shows, they have shows that teach about the wildlife within the aquarium and talk about who is there and outside in the world. It’s obnoxious to the wildlife and isn’t necessary. Recommend a good pair of walking shoes, a sundress or shorts and a tee, and have your phones and cameras ready WITHOUT flash. It’s a bit musky inside so don’t dress for AC cold weather blasting. Definitely meet miss Luna the albino, she has a beautiful set of scales on her. We saw the little cute otters asleep on the side all bundled up soon as we walked through the doors and that was adorable.Īlligators were a sight to see. Exhibits were easy to follow and read about and observe. That was something I appreciated because sometimes it is very hard to see exhibits with a bunch of little kids with their hands all over the glass and yelling. We went here in the middle of the day around 1.Įver since covid appeared they have you get your tickets online and have you choose a time so the place isn’t overcrowded.
